| 7th Dan
Date: 27th March 2010
Stephen McDade Shihan Awarded 7th Dan March 26th 2010
Shihan Stephen McDade has been awarded 7th degree Black Belt by his Father Hanshi James McDade 9th Dan.
Shihan Stephen has been training in the art of ju-jitsu for over 35 years and has held an adult black belt in ju-jitsu since grading 1st Dan in 1983.
Shihan Stephen stated that for me this is quite an achievement as it has been, and still is a life journey, considering I have been fortunate enough to have started my ju-jitsu training as a very young boy, and in doing so I am very proud of the fact that I have been able to wait the traditional amount of time between Dan grades, a total of 27 years from 1st Degree black belt at the age of 16 and now gaining a 7th Degree black belt coming up to my 43rd birthday, with no breaks in training.
When in the British Army I had a weekend class in Andover and trained at my Fathers clubs when on leave, the only period that I can recall not teaching ju-jitsu at all was a 4 month period back in 1988 when I was on an emergency active service tour in Northern Ireland with my regiment the 1st Battalion Queens infantry. I left the army due to a shoulder injury aggravated through a boxing competition serving just less than 2 years.
I would like to give special thanks to my Father for his tuition over the last 35 plus years and all the students that have been with us for many years and hopefully many years to come.
I look forward to the next 8 years after which I will be eligible for an 8th Dan, ‘like I said a life journey’!!!!
